Right when it first appeared, the value of Bitcoin was less than 10 cents. However, 9 years later, the same crypto was selling for $13 000. It truly has come a long way and has helped some people become billionaires. Here is a list of some of the wealthiest Bitcoin owners.
1. Satoshi Nakamoto
This is the name used by the one who created crypto. He is still the biggest owner of the currency and is one of the richest people. He is said to own around 1.1 million Bitcoins, which, if you do the math, would mean that he has $6 billion. Satoshi hasn’t exchanged most of these Bitcoins to flat currency. Some analysts say that if this person decided to sell all of the amount he/she owns, the price of the Bitcoin will plummet immediately.
2. Bulgaria
The country currently owns a lot of Bitcoins, making it one of the biggest owners. After the law enforcement authorities did multiple raids on some criminal organizations they confiscated 213,519 Bitcoins. With this amount ¼ of the national debt could be paid. If we do the math the amount is around $1.2 billion. The administration hasn’t disclosed publicly any details about the crypto.
3. Bitfinex
This is a cryptocurrency exchange which is also owning the biggest BTC wallets in the world. There are 163,133.38 Bitcoins, which would be about $1 billion. Many believe that they are stored in a cold wallet and in this way they are safer.
4. The FBI
It is among the wealthiest owners of crypto. It has been taking the digital assets of criminals and slowly but surely accumulating a big mass of BTC. One they took 144,000 which belonged to the founder and operator of the dark web bazaar, Ross Ulbricht.
He is believed to have made a couple of mistakes which enabled the FBI to find and catch him. Silk Road is said to have traded over 9.5 million Bitcoins.
5. The Winklevoss Twins
They are popular for becoming the first Bitcoin billionaires. First the world heard of them after they sued Mark Zuckerberg because he had stolen the Facebook idea from them. They received a compensation of $65 million and with a fraction of the money they bought 1.5 million Bitcoins. Their price has gone up by around 20 000% since then.
Some think that those guys currently own 1% of all Bitcoins. Their total wealth is at $400 million. They launched Windex and also invested a lot of money in BitInstant.
6. Garvin Andresen
Garvin Andresen is the one who is believed to be the reason why Bitcoin is where it is today. Many believe that he is actually Nakamoto. He denies and says that they are just old friends. After being picked by Nakamoto for a successor, he became the primary developer for the open-source code, used in crypto. His wage was more than $200,000 at a certain moment and he was paid in Bitcoins by the Bitcoin Foundation. Garvin is known to have cashed out the amount many times.
7. Roger Ver
He was one of the first Bitcoin billionaires and many think that he currently owns over 100,000 Bitcoins. Rumor has it that he became a college dropout in order to concentrate on his Bitcoin projects.
His dream is a bit different from that of some other billionaires – he wants to see a world where every person owns his personal life and is free to do whatever he wants. He is currently living on a secluded island in the Caribbean.
Conclusion
It is believed that there are more than 153,000 BTC addresses that have over 10 Bitcoins. All of the rich people from the list, combined with those thousands of addresses are actually just 1% of the total Bitcoin amount, which is currently available. Crazy, right?
